The phishing emails – the fifth wave since Thanksgiving that uses the BBB’s name – uses BBB’s name and logo in an attempt to look like a notice of a newly filed complaint. The latest round includes a ZIP attachment, but that has not always been the case.

Every year many of us make well-intended resolutions to change our lifestyles, and in reality many elect to acquire gym memberships intent on improving physical fitness and losing weight. Every year the BBB receives subsequent complaints in the middle of the year relating to contractual obligations that the consumers cannot typically cancel. The BBB wants to encourage consumers to pursue physical well being and improved lifestyles but when contemplating a gym membership or relationship there are a number of questions that need to be asked prior to entering any contractual relationship.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) receives frequent complaints arising from consumer transactions with various trade contracting services. Trade contractors may offer services such as carpentry, cabinet making, home
renovations, excavation and landscaping services, roof replacement, and concrete installation, for example.

The Better Business Bureau continues to receive frequent calls from consumers who have mistakenly complied with callers alleging to represent Microsoft, Apple, Dell and most recently Bomgar Corporation a legitimate software developer headquarter in California, and provided online third party access to their home computers. The scam has not changed since we first started receiving calls in early July.

The BBB received a phone call Friday from a Saskatchewan consumer who reports receiving a telephone call from a gentleman identifying himself as Joshua from the BBB, and alleging to be investigating

The BBB has received numerous calls this week from consumers approached by telephone callers using a variation of a well known name like Microsoft to fix alleged security and virus issues on their home computer. The caller alleges that the consumer’s internet service provider has identified a problem with a virus or a security breach on the individual’s home computer and offers an online repair or fix to resolve these alleged issues.
